How To Measure

first thing's first, grab a pair of your favorite pants that have a similar rise. find a measuring tape and a flat surface to measure on. be sure to lay your pants flat, smoothing out the fabric to remove any slack. compare the measurements to the chart below.

waist

the circumference of the waistband, along the top edge.

hip

the width at the bottom of the J stitch, straight across. double the flat measurement.

Front rise

the length from the bottom of the crotch seam to the top edge of the front waistband.

thigh

starting 1” below the crotch seam, the width of the leg perpendicular to the outer seam. double the flat measurement.

leg opening

the width of the opening at the bottom of the leg. double the flat measurement.

inseam

following the inside-leg seam, the length from the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.

for me, wearing the russell brought back a lot of fond memories: summertime, working with my grandfather as a teen, and my well-worn 505s.

the russell’s fit combined with the stunning light wash make for a great everyday throw-on pair of jeans that provide a high yet comfortable rise, and a roomy seat and thigh.

i usually wear a size 29 in i+w jeans, but for a looser fit, i chose a size 30. although they are a bit tapered from the knee down, i never felt restricted.

wearing the russell jeans was a refreshing change for me, as i've primarily worn rigid indigo denim with a wider leg for many years now. initially, it was a bit of a challenge to adapt, but after two weeks, i think the russell has become my new favorite i+w jean.
