Emil Erwin recommends to size your belt as follows:

if you wear men's clothing, order your pant size. if you wear women's clothing, order one size up (e.g. if you wear a 32, order a 34.)

the most accurate way to determine your sizing is to measure your waist through your belt loops while wearing your pants and no belt. take this measurement and subtract 4. this number will be your belt size.
